Summer Storm

By: Sam Brace

rain splashes against bare faces
i think the teardrops are drowning us
in deepwater that we can only see through dark eyes
it's a summer storm
and i'm sitting in the middle of it
writing on a soaked piece of notebook paper
and my pencil won't stop punching

something keeps rising out of my chest
and i can't tell if its just the feeling of lust
or the lie of love
maybe the rain will wash it away so i don't have to think
but it's a brief night and summer storms remain
only in a memory you'll never forget,
but can't quite remember

sweat that's been inside my mouth for years is drained away
only by the sweet summer storms that won't seem to leave
thunders and dew mixed through mother nature's roses
and now understanding life
for she is just a blink from here and how
i feel envy, i feel greed,
and, most of all, i feel nothing besides these
sorry if it seems like somethings wrong with me

i hear the taste of sushi relived burdens you'll never understand
and i think the draw to man and woman will never tire
but thinking tires me and people wonder why i sleep so long
and no, the life inside me isn't connecting finally
just this summer shower has drowned the flood
and the sight is too shockingly breath-taking to wake from.
maybe because this summer shower is only you
and only you could take my breath away like that
