I Never Really Let You Go

By: Mike in FL

I think about you often,
The life we almost had,
The times we spent together,
How your absence makes me sad.

The smile on your face-
The one that used to make me cry;
The loss that is forever,
It cuts so deep, I die.

I try so hard to stand
But the weight, it brings me down.
The years of wondering how you've been-
Do you still love him now?

Will these feelings ever leave me?
Do I really want them to?
I cling to them so dearly;
They're all I've left of you.

So, if you find it in your heart
Please say hello to one who cares,
Who never stopped believing
This life was meant for us to share.

Was I in your dreams last night
The way you came to me in mine?
Did you hear me say, "I loved you"
Like you've said a thousand times?

I thought I held your hand, so tight
You knew I'd never let it go.
Was this a glimpse of happiness
A kind I'll never know?

I prayed so hard that you'd come back
But it wasn't meant to be;
The young girl I thought I knew
Decided... it wasn't me.

So, God in heaven help me
And see me through another day;
You know it took a lot of work
For me to still be here today.

And if you find it in your heart
Please say, "hello," to one who cares,
Who never stopped believing
This life was meant for us to share.
