Weeds
by Denice  Rochelle

Not one day passes without a thought of you
creeping and pushing into my mind like an unwanted weed.
I've tried different forms of pesticide
but my heart is immune to eradicating memories of you.
Will thoughts of you multiply until I'm completely consumed?
What will it take for me to be able to live my life free of you?
Will I have to plow and till and fertilize the soil of my entire soul?

Yes.

I see visions of beautiful and manicured landscapes.
I see lush green hills rolling into eternity.
I see gardens infinitely fragrant and vividly colorful.
I hear bird song in the wind.
Sunshine warms and nourishes the garden.
Moonlight is the sentry that keeps vigil in the night.
Will I have to plow and till and fertilize the soil of my entire soul?

Yes.
