BEFORE YOU
by Avery  Robertson

If you knew how much time
It's taken me to touch within;
How I wandered in the wilderness,
til your arms took me in.

Coldness, hardness swallowed
all the brightness inside;
Running crying, trying to
find somewhere I could hide.

Words were so hard and full
of stinging painful lies;
Eyes wanted to see the truth,
while ears hear only good-byes.

There were days so dark
but not as dark as my nights;
Love danced madly before me
then quickly... out of my sight.

I want to dream and I needed
to believe in something;
tried to run away from you,
but I'm tied by our heartstrings.

Your soft voice calling me back,
Your gentle touch shows the way;
Now I believe in 'forever' and
that's where I want to stay.

I know they don't understand
what I feel with every kiss;
But your love and soul are things
I hope I never have to miss.
