Why Can't I Let You Go
by Kim  McMillan

There were never any explanations
For why you felt the need to leave
I just had to accept it was over
When you left without saying goodbye

Surprise overcame me months later
When you returned to where we met
Was it fate, us meeting that night
You walking in as I was leaving

Neither of us expected to see the other
So unsure of what each would say
I asked you why you were there
In memory of the night we met, you said

We reminisced of our time together
Answers my heart longed for were given
And we spoke of all we had been through
In the year we spent apart

All my feelings came rushing back
Though they had never really left
You said you miss me, still love me
But yet, you are with another

As I sit on the hill overlooking the city
The lights sparkling in the night
Hold no fascination for me
Without you there by my side

Now I find myself going back
To the time when you were here
The memories of the love we shared
Keep running through my mind

I remember everything about you
Your voice, eyes, smile, all the laughter
Your touch, so tender and loving
The fun we shared, the quiet times too

I'm told time will heal
This aching in my heart
Until then I will keep wondering
Why can't I let you go?
