The Greatest Love
by Meghann Marie Roark

I'm only asking you to love me,
But I know you can't
I've kept my thoughts from drifting
For fear you would see them dance.

Tell me I'm beautiful,
That you dream of me at night
Explain how much you need me
And live to hold me tight.

Recollect the moments,
All the time our love was true
Tell me you still live for me
The way I've lived for you.

Tell me you miss me
And really want me back
Tell me you would die for me
And find in me everything you lack.

And I'm asking all this of you
Because I've seen it all before
I followed in your footsteps
Until I stumbled on the floor.

I watch your steps before me
While the dust fades you away,
And I beg of you to wait for me,
But you refuse to stay.

And although you can't see in me
All I see in you,
And you no longer look at me
The way you used to do

I know deep within my heart
That somehow you still care
And you never wanted to break the heart
Of the girl you thought so fair.

And you will curse the hell below you
And the heaven's righteous clouds
When you watch with tears in your eyes
As I make some other guy proud

And you will hear the story
Of the girl who just refused to fall
Because she kept her strength in you,
The greatest love of all.
