DAVID'S BATTLE
by John Seabrook
DAVID LOST THE BATTLE
You took all I had, every feeling from my heart,
You did it from the beginning, but I didn't know from the start,
What you had in mind, was something that just couldn't be,
A life that evolved around you, that didn't really include me,
Other than enjoying the love I showed you each day,
Of which you knew was there, but you turned away,
You felt I became an anchor, tied by each link of the chain,
You cut them, one by one, and now your on your own again.
Wish you could have made, that big splash in the blue,
Would have been so much easier, than killling me by each link it is true,
An undying love such as mine for you, you'll never again have in your life,
You still own my heart and soul, but you'll never be my wife,
I knew it for some time before, before you left me, in your heart,
The fire you did kindle and get burning, the fire you did start
Was never going to last, because you forgot to rekindle the flames,
And began to break my heart, with each of your little games,
You thought your money would woo me, but in this you were wrong,
For dollars can't be spent in my heart, they can't buy love's song,
Nor happiness I expect in this life, to enjoy at the finish,
You took away all I had, and you never did replenish
What I gave from within....gave you every beat of my soul,
Loving you, you didn't understand, was my only life's goal,
You've shredded, torn and tattered, all that was left of me,
There's not much left of me, in this life here to be,
I am David, you're Goliath....this I know is so true,
But in life's real day to day story...I have lost...but so have you.
