We Said Goodbye
by Tracie  McKedy

I looked at you
with a tear in my eye.
I was willing to say, "see ya later,"
but I never wanted to say goodbye.

You said it was something
we had to do.
So we did
and now I miss you.

You left my life
as quickly as you entered it.
That makes me cry
and these tears just won't quit.

I wish everyday
that you would come back to me
but I know that is a wish
that will never be.

There is something
that I know I have to do.
I have to go on living,
I can't stop and wait for you.

So now I'm turning away
without a tear in my eye
because now I know we didn't say, "see ya later,"
we said goodbye.
