Promise to Keep
by Elaine Diana Lolin
I remember the time we laughed together;
I remember the time you said
you'd always love me, forever.
When I look upon your face,
I know somewhere there's a place
for us to be alone under the stars,
reaching out for your love so far.
Can I stay faithful while you hold me in your arms?
Do you think, being alone, I can still stand strong?
Even though you're not near me,
I can still hear your voice in my crazy misery.
You're everything I've ever dreamed of;
you gave me faith that encouraged my love.
Now, all I ask is to have you by my side,
throw my tears away, and give me a smile.
It's only you I want; it's only you I need.
If you can only take the time to see
what my heart is trying to say,
Baby, I'll always love you, either way.
I love the way you show me faith.
But when we can't be together, it's a pain,
a pain that makes my eyes cold and teary
and my heart so weak and weary.
My mind is telling me I can move on,
but my heart is telling me you're the one.
I'm so confused, I don't know what to do.
I think to myself, "Will I ever love someone
the way I loved you?"
Even though you're so far away,
even though you can't hear me say,
"The day I met you, I fell so deep,
I knew I would go on loving you,"
...that's a promise I'm willing to keep.
