The Drill Instructor
by Kenneth Ray Etherton
It's late at night and I'm thinking of you
Where you are and what you do.
Your warming smile and your loving touch,
It's times like this that I miss you so much.
I think of the time I've spent away,
While you were at home where you had to stay.
I know my days off were numbered and few
But the day's off I have are twice as much as you.
I come home at night and fall asleep in my chair,
Always knowing in the morning you'll be right there.
I know I don't always say the things I need to say,
But I appreciate the little things you do each and every day.
Sometimes raising the children all alone,
With my only help through a telephone...
I think of the times I've leaned on you
And all the stress you've been thru.
And you've never had to lean on me
I guess I just wanted you to see.
I love you more than words can say,
I think about you night and day. I?m like a vessel
On a wave ridden sea that could never be steadied
Without the help of thee.
You are my everything, the center of my life.
Thank you so much for being my wife.
