My Daddy's Love
by DEBRA GAIL DAITZ
Quite a few years ago, when I was a young girl,
My daddy took me to the beach and I found a pretty pearl.
I showed it to daddy and he gave me a smile.
He told me to set it aside, for just a little while.
With no questions asked, I gave him this grin.
He said, my loving daughter, you're life's about to begin.
He told me fantasy stories, of jewels by the sea,
And when I'd grow up, he promised them to me.
Diamonds and rubies, emeralds and pearls,
All richness with values, for pretty young girls.
I treasured his love, and all that he said,
Then a couple of years later, my daddy was dead.
He drifted away, one cold winter night.
I'll remember his love, but I had this fright.
Then I went to my collection, found the pearl and I cried,
His love I will treasure, from deep down inside.
I'll always love you daddy, and that's where it starts,
I'll hold all those treasures, and you in my heart.
