The Path Not Taken
by Jenni Cummings
There are many paths to choose
When you think you've taken the right one
You follow it carefully
Togehter, we walked through tree-lined paths
Protected from the April showers
Or, were we?
Love came pouring down upon us
Hand in hand, we were one
Learning the ups of each other
As we walked over hills
Nothing could get in our way
To break the silence of contentment.
So sure we were that things were great
You took me to a road I never traveled before
There I found more than I expected
I found the desires hiding inside me
You carefuly and lovingly guided me
I never knew love could be so good
You took me to a place of ecstasy
Securing me in your strong arms
I never thought my feet would touch the ground
My love kept growing more everyday
For you there were no bounds
I would have moved heaven and earth for you
Then the day our path had changed
What we found were the faults that had to be known
We couldn't hide them, we knew they were there
This is a part that had to be shown
I knew you couldn't have good
Without excepting the bad
Did we really expect to have nothing standing in our way?
Were we really that naive?
I don't believe our love dissipated
We walked through treacherous paths
Filled with rocks, dirt and mountains to be climbed
Trying to help each other through
Suffice it to say
I thought we made it
There was nothing that could stand in our way
A love so strong could walk on hot coals
But, apparently, we lost one another
And are walking separate paths alone
The path for me is getting steeper everyday
I am trying to find you
I am calling your name
If only I could walk on water
But I keep sinking
I need you to find me
Meet me in the middle
And find the path not taken.
