Revelation's Eve
by Justin Maxwell Jerome
Given dominion over the Garden, we were the first two
You created from my rib, my joy created from you
We learned of our punishment, when from the Garden we were released
Until our souls fell in love again, we would never be at peace
We were both lowly beggars, when they crucified Christ
But for all the begging we did, we could not win back His life
I turned from Him to your fearful eyes, the soldiers had you caught
I screamed out, "Take me instead!" but my cries were all for naught
Later you were Cleopatra, Queen of all the Nile
I was a slave simply content to watch you gaze at your King and smile
To your perfect symmetry, pyramids I built could not compare
But you were my inspiration, though of me you were unaware
Then of all the southern belles, you were the sweetest Georgia peach
After working in the fields, you would invite me to sip your iced tea
We knew we could never be together, you were the white to my black
But it was your name I sang, walking the Underground Railroad tracks
Then for you all of the plantations evolved to mountainous peaks
And away from all the pyramids, I found myself on city streets
Escaping previous poverty, but feeling a loneliness without end
While you nursed a fragile heart, crushed by the will of Men
Then somehow the thread of life again intertwined our seams
As if God had finally seen fit to resurrect our dreams
Separated since Genesis, Adam will finally kiss his Eve
And on the Eve of Revelation, together again our souls will be
