A Black Rose
by Jonathan Albrecht
A single black rose
It signifies my heart
One single black rose
Signifies all bitter and tart
We started a devine white
That signified our love,
As it matured gradually
It turned as beautiful as the dove
It slowly transformed, darker,
Blooming to a lavish color gold
We were on out way to eternity
Going wild, uncontrolled
Darker and darker it turned
Now it was the brightest of red
But it was from here where it went bad,
It is here I awfully dread
For the rose got too dark
Turned once perfect, now an auburn gray
I had never thought our love would go wrong
It was white...gold...red where I wanted to stay
Now the rose it black
Darker than the bitter cold sky
The night I gave you a single white rose
And you sadly said, "Goodbye"
