An Old Friend
by   Allison V.

We used to be best friends,
I could tell you anything.
We talked about everything,
future, present, and past.
You said you'd be there till the end.
I took your word for it,
then when you asked me out,
I just couldn't resist.

We dated for a while,
but then we were forced to call it quits.
It was a painful break up,
and we both said some things we didn't really mean.
But at the time we really didn't care.

Back at school you talked about me behind my back.
But I heard you call me a bad word,
I heard you call me another one.
It hurt me a lot to hear that from you,
But it hurt me most that I didn't feel the same way.

You wouldn't talk to me about anything,
so we couldn't work it out.
Instead you acted immature and didn't care at all.
Is that what a friend is for??

After a while you started to talk to me,
but I never considered you a friend again.
Because while we were in silence,
I decided I wanted more in life than you.

I didn't tell you that,
which made you think we were friends.
That's what I heard you tell your "friends."
Once agian I just didn't feel the same.

Let me share a little news with you hon'.
You called me a friend,
you called me a girlfriend,
you even dared to call me a bad word.

All that is ok with me.
I got mad when you called me a friend again.
So you can call me a friend,
a peer, or a bad word.
You pick.
But if you call me a bad word,
Don't call me a friend!
