This Goodbye
by Donna Lynn Gerrard

Now we've reached our time to say goodbye.
There's only one thing that makes me cry,
The fact we didn't last forever,
Even though our vows were broken - never!
But in my heart, I feel so glad
That leaving you has made me sad.

I know my loss is truly great -
Your priceless love, worth more in weight
Than any gold or precious stone.
And even though I'll feel alone,
I'll have the best of memories to keep,
And dreams of you, when I fall to sleep.

So before we say our last goodbye,
And whilst I've no more tears to cry,
Let me kiss your hand and give you thanks
For love unsurpassed, in any rank.
Thanks to you, I know love is real,
And because of you, I know how it feels.

For every perfect moment, I am grateful,
Even the times our behaviour was shameful!
I lived my dream, though it seemed a short while.
But thank you for showing my heart how to smile,
And taking me places unimaginably high!
And thank you for making me sad,
This goodbye.
