Humble Trumpets
by William Scott Mueller
Humble trumpets gushing creeping to and fro
Arteries flowing copiously, as violet flowers grow
Bursting purple hearts I see, alive on a sea of sand
The artist?s life an incantation
Drawn in the blood of their own hand
My salty tears embossed on a relief map of grief
Attesting to our love
Against the wind the sea oats bend.
Being only slightly shaken.
Avowed to keep the ocean at bay,
In a savage moment on any given day.
