State of Affairs
by David  Fronius

The pain is temporary, I tell myself,
as I watch her walk away with him.
(It has to be a bad dream.)
I cannot find a thing he has
that could hold her to him.
I always thought she was happy
being here in my arms
but I must have missed something
along the way to loving her.

The hurt he has caused her
makes me wonder how and why
she keeps deciding to stay with him.
There is no sunshine, only rain with him;
no happiness, only sorrow and pain with him.
If she could but see the happiness she had
and, with me, the love she'd be in.
It is night now and, here, alone am I

hoping to hear her voice... but no reply
because he is with her now and he tells her how,
this time, he is going to change.
And she wants to believe him, give another chance
but without trust... love is such a lonely dance.
And so I go on loving her always.
When she goes through her good and bad days
and when she leaves me, and goes into the night,
I cry, watching her walk away with him.
