Sweet Lies
by Jennifer Kay Mitchell

What would you do if I said
I wanted to write a song for you?
Would you be flattered,
or would you be concerned
I had feelings for you?

Sadly I knew what our relationship would be- from the start,
but wanting to touch you overwhelmed me too much.
Usually I'm the girl who would want more...
even expect it,
but with you I find-
anything will do.

You consume me with your words, and
fill my body with pleasure never felt before.
How I feel for you is clouded by wonderings
of what you think of me.

I smile at your lies...
(thinking how sweet they sound, coming from you).
if it were anyone else,
I'm sure I'd be angry.

You tell me you'll call
and even though I know you won't -
the anticipation still overwhelms me-
You can't imagine the confusion that engulfs me,
even though there should be none
(for I always knew how it would be)

I know that soon this will be over,
and you'll move onto another lover.
So, when that time comes
hold me in your arms
and kiss me
and tell me
one more sweet, sweet lie.

Tell me you'll never forget me- or the warmth,
because I know I'll never forget you
                       ...and your angel eyes!
