My Friend
by   Bill

The tears welled inside me, the pain tore within,
At the loss of the love I thought I could win
And though love unrequited has saddened my heart,
I?m richer for friendship you shared from the start.

My soul e?er remembers the laughter bestowed
And my love, like the ocean... has swelled and has flowed,
But the tide of your love has ebbed by the shore,
And a sweet love expected... is expected no more.

But love is enduring ? never losing its touch-
And I?ll love you forever... for I love you so much,
That no pain can repel me or turn me away,
For my love is eternal... it can?t die or decay.

For love cannot hide; nor seek a different road,
It will seek out its lover from its secret abode,
?Tis love that I yearned for ? and love that I knew-
?Tis love that I found... and I found it in you.

I?m blessed to have loved you ? though briefly it seems-
Too far were our hearts... too distant our dreams;
For love is the heights that all men must scale,
Whether love is successful or is doomed to but fail.

Then the clouds did but part and a vision shone bright
That you were the beauty causing love to ignite,
And if life remains fractured... when it comes to an end,
I?ll remember your soul... for I loved You... my friend.
