When You Are Not Here
by Wael Nawara
When you are not here
When you go to your real life
And to a real man
To whom you are called a 'wife'
When you go to your real home
Chat in a real four-walled room
When you go to your real neighborhood
To real kids playing around the block
A real fire place, a sofa , a real clock
When you are not near
When your name is merely a shadow
No proof of you ever having existed
Except in a heart, already twisted
When all becomes questionable
Validity Unsustainable
Reality wearing a thousand masks
When no art can bring you back
When you are not here
The only one
who can really bring you near
is you !
It is frightening
What if
this person
never wanted to come
What if
you decided
you just wouldn't do?
What could remain of you?
When you are not here
Or even near?
