A Path of Thorns
by Alicia A. R.

The path I took, to your heart, all it was was a path of thorns.
The thorns, so thick, so high,
they were all I could see, it was as if they had blinded me.
Those thorns, so sharp, so cruel,

they tore at me, so now all I do is bleed with pain.
Those thorns picked me apart, they were so persistant.
For a while I refused to give in, refused to give up.
I wouldn't let myself see the truth of everything,

I wouldn't allow myself to see the dark slowly engulfing me.
I was naive and innocent,
I thought there would be a garden of beautiful roses
at the end of this path of thorns.

In reality the path just kept on winding,
and it kept on tearing me apart more and more...
