Missing You

By: Holly Estell Grant

Time flies by and you're no longer spry,
Pretty soon in the ground everyone will lie.

It's hard to believe that you're no longer here,
Even though you're gone- I can still feel you near.

I can remember all the tears and everyone's heart breaking,
I remember those who refused to speak and those who were shaking.

We still can't believe how you left us to bear the pain,
We still can't believe that horrible day in the rain.

You were full of fun and the joy of laughter,
Anything we said didn't seem to matter.

You would run and play and hide in the trees,
You would swing from the branches and roll in the leaves.

You would act like you're blind, or worse you couldn't hear,
Then a crashing sound brought us hurt and fear.

When we heard the sound we looked up to see what went on,
We saw you lying there, all your breath was gone.

You were hit by a car while you were trying to have some fun,
Then a moment later- I lost my darling son.

The impact of the car caused your life to depart
We couldn't hear a breathe or a beat from your heart.

There was blood everywhere and tears that made it thin,
If only I had been paying attention to you right then.

I looked away for a split second in time,
Now my baby's gone, taken even before his prime.

In a few days we laid your frail body in the ground,
The life that was once there will no longer be found.

God, watch over my son and everything he happens to do,
My darling baby boy... how I miss you!
