Winter is here

By: Lizette Y. Liendo

As the chill of the wind embraces me
takes me deep within,
I'm reminded of the touch you once gave me
and the closeness my heart once lived.
Your arms were wrapped around me
protecting me from harm,
but now that this coldness takes over my body
no one can keep me warm.
It was you who lit me up inside
flames that soon turned to ashes,
and now my soul is the color of winter
no light, just darkness.
As I look into the future
I don't see you by my side,
and my empty heart has turned to stone
because your love for me already died.
I'm faced with nothing but hopeless dreams
and broken promises that you once said,
then the wind blows through my face
I feel your whisper and your hot breath.
But now even that can bring you back to me
only this time of year I'm remembering you,
because the love we had comes and goes
while my heart slowly turns blue.
