Loving and Losing
by Natasha Parvez Hooda

He whispers slowly to me in the night
In my heart even when he's out of sight.
I think of only him, every second, every day
Remembering him makes it all okay.

My palms sweat and my heart beats
When we are close I feel only heat.
We dance to imaginary love songs
And he laughs as he rights my wrongs.

His eyes filled with passion and fire
An internal spirit I have long admired.
That smile especially smiled for me
It's like we were always meant to be.

How can it feel so right and yet so wrong?
I feel afraid it will soon end, this love song.
It is not forever and I fear to lose him
If he leaves the light of my life will dim.

Yet I know we will someday be apart
But he will forever stay in my heart.
First love is never forgotten and is real
Without him I feel like I am destined to fail.

He is half of me, without him I am nothing
But given time I will become something.
My heart will learn, my wounds will heal
Then once again I will be able to feel.

When we kissed I felt as if I once flew
Although that was never for real I knew.
Now I know what I never did, long before.
Loving you made me stronger right to the core.

My heart is dulled with hurt and pain
But with time knowledge I will gain.
It is better to have loved and lost
than never to have loved at all...
