Everyone's Story
by Kaitlyn A Linker

Undisguised apprehension between two clandestine lovers:
She waits for him to expose everything.
She waits for him to admit reality.
Or yet, she waited- because she has memorized,
Memorized the red flag obstacles enveloped.
It unravels with black-laced adoration and secrecy.
But their sober hearts are quiet misleading.
They prevaricate...

They extinguish the opal flames created while cross-eyed.
And it's the title that claims them tolerable to society.
But a simple taste undresses their thoughts.
The glass is translucent and enticing.
They press their bodies against the pane.
Failure...

They have yet to touch, prisoners to thought.
Or yet, they're prisoners to actuality and consequences.
She moves first. Contemplating sheer repetitive life.
She feels the other breathing over her shoulder.
She knows...

That's why she saunters away half full.
And I nod as I watch myself dance with temptation, yet again.
