This Promise I've Promised to Keep
by Charles Michael Livesay

A promise I've sought to keep,
To one knee I dropped and began to weep.
My hands shaking, my body weak
From this Promise I've promised to keep.

In a quiet voice a question was asked.
All fear was gone there was no turning back.
A single tear ran down her cheek
And she herself began to weep.

"Yes" was the answer I seemed to seek.
It felt like it came straight from her feet.
Red was the color of her face
And the ring I placed on her finger post-hast.

Her hands shaking, her body weak
From this Promise, I've promised to keep.
This Promise I've promised to keep, I've kept
A future is what WE now seek.

And that is the new Promise
I've Promised to Keep!
