ADDICTIVE
by C  J

Drawn to a life of addiction
A self destructive pathway
Early death is merely a prediction
Simply dreading that day

Life sometimes can be tough
Yet that is no excuse
Hurting yourself is not enough
So you offer verbal abuse

Vow to never become like you
Wasting precious time on the past
So, do as I say not as I do
Was a lesson learned real fast

A larrikin is all they see
Parties, booze and drugs
Yet he is the man who tells me
Never show your form to mugs

So very weak, yet so very wise
A man who simply lost his way
To a challenge he will always rise
Dad, i just hope you are okay

To those out there struggling with watching a loved one
being swallowed up whole by a life of drugs and/or alcohol,
stay strong, because you are not the only one....
