I'm Not Sure
by Stephanie Nicole Phillips

I'm not sure why we act this way
playing like children in first grade
back when boys and girls had cutties
hurting each other was known as flirting
we were so young
didn't understand what love was.

I'm not sure why we act this way
praying for him to stay.
They usually say, first love is forever.
You fell in love, thought it was true,
but you soon found out
love wasn't meant for you.

I'm not sure why we act this way
wiping the tears away with a sleve.
Being someone easy to make him stay.
Hurting inside, 'cause he dosen't see,
the words you say mean more than they seem.
Heart beating through pain and suffering.

I'm not sure why we act this way,
pain and suffering is all that remains.
He's gone and you're all alone.
Nothing but a broken picture in a frame.
Take the glass, pull it deep and think back.
When we played like children in first grade.
