Parting Shot
by Humphrey  Ogu

              With deepest love,
                tenderest care
              and kindest thought
                I say goodbye-
                 not because
I don't want to see you anymore,

             But I've got to leave
             for my heart is heavy
            with regrets and pains
              of parting from you.

              All I had, I gave...
                but all I gave
                  you hated
as it fell short of your taste.

              I've got to leave
                 not because
my love for you has died, No!
I still feel its rhythm in the depth of my heart
as ever, and even much more.

           I wish could make you
          as happy as you desired,
            O Majestic Princess,
           but I'm not a prince.
I'm just a poor honest guy-
rich in love, poor in riches
rich in health, poor in wealth.

                  Remember:
         I've never been a politician
              and would never be.
I've always been what I am
             and I would ever be.
             Love me or leave me,
              I'm glad to remain
                   A POET.
