two minus one equals no love
by Grettel E Dunn

I heard a knock,
so I opened my heart and you entered.

I thought you would stay awhile
So we could become more familiar with one another
And as we played the game of give and take
I tried hard to concentrate,
To avoid making a fatal mistake.

Still, I allowed you entrance
into my soul, without shame
Yet, you remained a mystery,
disclosing only your name.

You sat for only a minute or maybe two;
I didn?t even get a chance
To express my true feelings for you.

As the radio played the last tune
I hummed in silence to my favorite part
Not knowing that you?d be leaving soon.

You walked out... and broke my heart.
