If Love Were Only a Dream
by Jared Lee Dudgeon

Oh, if love were only in dreams,
and beauty, segments of thy mind,
I would have no life it seems,
nor would life a meaning to find.

For what sorrow first to this
a world void of love and beauty;
loving hearts would surely miss-
and the world, would fail in duty.

Life is such a thing- can't endure,
without beauty and love by her side,
for such a thing, my mind is sure,
and thy loveless heart tries to hide.

For this heart stripped bear knows too well
the forbidden secrets of the night,
that the dawn of day marks love's farewell,
so, forever shall I dream tonight.

But know this, oh fleeting heart,
that if love were only a dream,
such a life I would too hastily part...
to a place where love reigns supreme!
