Mangled Pride
by J A Morf

My love for you swells deep in my heart,
and seeps through every pore;
I long to hold you in my arms
and love you--nothing more.

But when I pull you close to me,
you sweetly shut the door;
And pain exhales silently,
and mutes the lion's roar.

With mangled mane and vanished pride,
he knows not what to do;
So from the toothless jaws whispers...
my heart alone for you.
