The Summer Storm
by natalie roach rhodes

Like a summer storm, he descended on me
A dark cloud creeping into the very corners of my mind
Remaining there like a cancerous growth
Disturbing my days and eating away at normality

Gales of confusion twirled around my head
Until, not knowing what else to do,
I lay down and held out my arms to him... the darkness
Embracing his power, easing his pain, absorbing his might

He reached to me and swept me up
Whirling me about in a merry dance of rapture
Round and round, on and on we spun
Until sick with despair, I questioned his motives
and believed in his knowledge

Succumbing to the arms of comfort and torture
I melted unto him, fusing with his splendour
and questioned him no more
For I was he...

As swiftly as the tempest brewed so it subsided
and eventually dwindled to nothing
And I fell to earth, a bruised and battered-
a plaything of the gale

Now I walk alone with tears stinging my eyes
While cruel memories clutch at my heart
The storm has passed on and left misery
and my destruction in its wake...
