First Kiss
by Katrina Amber Gray

Walking down these harsh halls unseen,
Treated like some unusual animal or being,
No hands, warm and comforting, to reach to when it's tough,
No arms waiting to cradle me when my life gets rough...

Trying not to think about it, I count each locker passing,
Trying not to look at young love that seems to be everlasting,
Then I see you with your dyed hair and punk t-shirt,
I watch you become annoyed when a girl stops to flirt.

I wonder how anyone's eyes could be that green,
And your eyes lock with mine, I'm no longer unseen,
You continue to look at me while Blondie blathers on,
I drop my binder knowing I'd do something wrong.

I blush and a single tear drops as people start to tease,
I see you next to me as you drop to your knees,
You smile and say I'm sure you could use a hand,
You wipe away my tear and I don't know sky from land.

In front of everyone you lean over and kiss a kiss unrehearsed,
I smile at you and say that was my very first,
Over all these years you've kissed me more,
And still when you do- I don't know the roof from the floor!
