If I could only hold the sun...
by david rushing
If I could only hold the sun,
and share the warmth it brings;
I'd spread my arms and be the one,
to heal your broken dreams.
And I wish I could hold the rain,
so cool and wet and pure;
I'd wash away your endless pain,
no strife would you endure.
If I could hold a rainbow bright,
with shades of pink and blue;
I'd wish a wish to wish tonight,
that all your dreams'd come true.
And I wish that I could tame the wind,
I'd entice a breeze to blow;
And free your heart to love again,
your Self you'd come to know.
And snow held tight in hands so bare,
would melt and ease your hurt;
You'd soar on wings of angels' prayers,
and gods would judge your worth.
I'd shield you from the smoke and fire,
refuge from hurt you'd take;
On passion's wing to heaven's pyre,
our vows of love we'd make.
If I could hold the moon and stars,
and keep them for my own;
You wouldn't shrink down in the dark,
not hide and cry alone.
Yes, if I could only hold the sun,
with golden rays so bright;
For sure I'd be your only one,
and life would be so right.
