Phoenix's Song
by Sarah Dale Gregory

The phoenix flickers silently,
A glow in the dead of night.
His good faith shines defiantly;
He waits for a chance to ignite.
Then passion takes him cruelly
To a fiery place above.
He knows these flames unruly,
But he does it all for Love.
The final lonely shadow dies;
Flames tear him all apart.
For a cooling kiss he cries,
To relieve his scorch?heart.
Someday the peace again returns;
But until then, the phoenix burns.
