to be myself again.
to know that although
i need you,
and want to be with you,
that the only thing that
matters is for me to be me.

and if i mattered to you,
when you loved me so,
then you need only to look
and see that i am still me.
behind the hurt, behind the loss.
i am the one who cared,
i am the one you loved,
that person is still there.

i'll wait for your word,
and whether or not it comes,
i will continue to laugh,
and hope,
and dream,
and love,
because that's who i am
and that's the person i want to be,
for myself.
