Goodbye

By: Dana Lauren Tapper

You spin around desperately,
unknowingly shutting yourself out,
Taunted by their snickers,
the rumors spread all about.
You follow your mother’s words,
and hold your head up high,
Take their gaze firmly,
resisting the urge to cry,
Never letting on to the pain they give you,
smiling as they pass.
They used to be your friends,
these silly lies won't last.
Their laughs echo down the hallway,
their words repeat in your head.
No one may acknowledge you,
you might as well be dead.
All of a sudden you’ve got a catch of the day,
of your reputation they dare not speak.
At the sound of this newfound pain,
at the knees you do go weak.
Your ex-best friend tsks at you,
you loudly let out a sigh.
Giving up completely,
and quietly saying goodbye.
