The True Definition of Forever

By: Dana Lauren Tapper

“Mommy what’s forever?” my daughter asked one day.
I looked at her silently, I didn’t know what to do or say.
She tugged at my skirt gently, pleading with her eyes.
All I could do was hold her, look at the clock and sigh.
I held my gaze firmly, my eyes brimming with tears.
She had uncovered my soul unknowingly, triggering my greatest fears.
“Daddy said he’d be here always, forever doesn’t end.
Mommy, where’d Daddy go? I thought he was your bestest friend!”
I glanced at my little baby, her curly brown hair back in a braid.
She wiped away my tears, silently, yet unafraid.
I assured her firmly things weren’t what they seemed,
And he’d be with her always, in her heart and in her dreams.
