Flamingo Logic
Soft feathers, pillows, hair and skin
The world ignored from under a warm pink wing
That’s how I cope with loss and pain
Cannot acknowledge sunshine, wind and rain
Toe nails, forehead, shovel and pail
Buried beneath the sand again
Too hard to face the world, alright
Much easier to hide my face from light
You ask the questions no person has yet asked
So hard to face the distant past
And yet a smile, a laugh, a grin
Has pulled me out from deep within
My head is now above the sand and wings
To take in wondrous sights and what love brings
More time to experience life in full
Rather than huddled, drab and dull
Though you chose to walk away
In the sun now I shall stay
No more to hide in wing and sand
But shine my light from where I stand
So when you see the pink, flightless bird
Remember all the things you’ve heard
Don’t bury sadness, hurt and things
Beneath the sand or under wings
