A friend like you appears

By: Bill

I do not need their pity,
Nor a condescending word,
Nor deceitful thoughts or actions,
Just a friend who'll always care.
And I find that strength in you,
To raise my spirits high,
So when life no longer helps,
I’ll know I’ll still get by.

But doubts then follow freely,
That I need your caring ways,
That I simply can’t go on,
Through the long and lonely days.
Then I think – there is a reason,
That a friend like you appears,
You’re the wall to guard my spirit,
When the force of anger nears.

You defend my lonely soul,
From the war I fight within,
You repel my many doubts,
So that hope shall soon begin.
And when the battles fought and won,
The loneliness twists and bends,
As it fights to find the answers,
To defeat me and my friends.

But it dies a painful death,
And slowly withers and dies,
And beyond I see my daggered friend,
With compassion in her eyes.
And our embrace is full of love,
For this moment ne’er will end,
And I thank the Lord for life,
And I thank Him for my friend.
