I remember watching you, when we were in grade school.
I didn't know what pretty was back then;
I watched you more than other girls.
As we grew older, I realized
you were different from other girls,
more mature, not afraid of boys.
You were friends with everyone.
In high school, I fell in love with you.
You had the face of an angel, hair of gold,
smile brighter than the sun,
blue eyes that sparkled with laughter.
I watched you flirt with the jocks.
My attempt at sports drew no attention from you;
We were friends, that's all,
Wasn't easy being in love with a friend.
On graduation day, we hugged and cried;
I'm sure for different reasons.
Your life filled with boyfriends and college;
my life filled with loneliness.
I remember the day I learned
you truly had become an angel.
I prayed, Lord, let her be my guardian angel.
I know you're watching, wait for me.
