This Being Love

By: Suzanne M. Williams

If love were a song
it would flow in sweetness
into heart pounding crescendo;
Mixed with measures
of sadness and sorrow,
intertwined with notes
of bubbly laughter.

If love were a flower,
could a single blossom do justice?
Or, would it take a bouquet
of Rose, Daisy and Sunflower
with a bit of Lilac,
Honeysuckle and Forget-me-not?

Can love be compared
to a single thing?
Is love not varied
as colors on the artist's palette?
Each blending or standing alone
to make the portrait unique.

Of the thousands of words
sung, written or spoken,
not a single one
has fully captured
love's essence and fire.
The power of one small word,
this being 'love'.
