Disappointment
by TamorahRoark
It looks like the sun setting upon the horizon of my dreams.
It looks like your retreating figure as you silently walk away.
It looks like the stars in a June night sky
as I lie on my back and wonder why you won't hold me.

It sounds just like your voice.
It sounds like a song you dedicated to me once.
It sounds like candle-lit silence and quiet contemplation.
It sounds like an unsaid plea for me to do something
   you selfishly expect.

It tastes like your imagined mouth upon mine.
It tastes like the words "I LOVE YOU" as I swallow them down
   before they escape my mouth.
It tastes like my salty tears of frustration.

It feels like the most poignant regret.
It feels like your hand gently caressing my stomach.
It feels like my tender heart laid bare before you.
It feels like sitting still next to you and feeling so unimportant.

It smells a little like my perfume as I wonder if you'll like it.
It smells like your body momentarily crossing the gulf between us.
It smells like the flowers you never sent to me.

Disappointment is all my doubts ignored.
It is my better judgement set aside.
It is the manifestation of foolishness.
It is my broken trust in you.
It is inevitability, expectations unable to be met.
It is your incapability, your refusal to love me
The way I need to be loved.
